In 1999 I drove north after I retired from Denver Public Schools
and fell in love. Not with a man--with the Prairie! I found myself
dreaming of the wind, and of wafting, blowing grasses. Weird, hah?
So I bought a house in Harrison Nebraska.
Not too long after my move to Nebraska I discovered pastel painting. The pastel medium--pure pigment in a stick--allows me to explore the immediacy, the passion, and the fragility of these high grasslands. While I still paint in acrylic and oil, I always circle back around to pastel--and the scenery of plain and pines. |

Peg Fowler was born in New York State and grew up in Pennsylvania.
She graduated from Penn State University with majors in both art and English,
and an abiding interest in caving, climbing, and the out-of-doors.
Fowler moved west, married, divorced, raised two children, and put her art career on hold--until she retired from the Denver Public Schools in 1997. Children and grandchildren are all in Minnesota, but Fowler maintains both a home and a studio in Harrison, Nebraska, where she paints full-time. |
