My aim as an artist is to render my observations as true to my original vision as my skills will allow. I often think the real art occurs at each instant of recognition before craft has an opportunity to put into play its own interpretation.

Tim's muse for all of his artistic career has been ordinary working people.

The small dramas of everyday life, regardless of our social or economic status, make a fabric of common experience connecting us as a community. I am intrigued by the universal truths of our shared moments. My art is a visual record of my inner reaction to these scenes.

My pastel paintings are always based on a factual occurrence. Although I am often able to verify physical details by revisiting a location, an exact copy of nature is never the primary goal. Other paintings must be guided by memory due to the transitory nature of what I have witnessed.  Interesting to me is the dichotomy between the literal truth of an event and my memory of the same tainted by past experience and prejudice.

Tim Peterson is a lifelong resident of the Dakotas and graduated from Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD with a fine arts major. Tim lives in scenic Spearfish, SD with his trophy wife/tech support/in-house critic Sharlene and their many children.
