Wednesday, September 25:

Painting at Sylvan Lake Artists will meet at Sylvan Lake to paint this iconic landscape throughout the day and into the evening.  Meander your way along the trails to see the artists set up and painting live! Nocturne painting  Keep your eyes open for Black Hills Plein Air artists painting at night! After dusk, the artists will be out painting the beautiful night scenes the Black Hills has to offer.

Thursday, September 26:

ALL DAY! Artists will paint around the Hills and Custer State Park area. View the paintings created from the day before at the Senior Center across from the 1880 Train from 11 am.-7 p.m. Gallery Walk. Beginning at 5:00 p.m., downtown Hill City will host a gallery walk by Hill City’s galleries, showing original artwork by regional artists. Here are the participating galleries and how to win our door prize, an original oil painting titled “Country Road” by Black Hills artist Bill Feterl!

Here’s how to win “Country Road” an original oil painting by Bill Feterl during the gallery walk:

Pick up an Entry Card at any of the participating galleries. Visit each gallery to get your Entry Card stamped. All participating galleries must be on the card to be eligible for the prize.  The drawing will take place after the gallery talk. You must be present to win.

Nocturne Painting. During the gallery walk and continuing into the night, artists will be challenged to paint night scenes of downtown Hill City. Gallery Talk. At 7:00 p.m., Learn about about plein air and nocturne painting during this presentation by artist Tim Peterson at the Warrior’s Work & Ben West Gallery,  277 Main Street  Hill City, SD  57745

Friday, September 27:

Artists will paint around the Hills and Custer State Park area all day until 3p.m. View the paintings created from the first 2 days at the Senior Center from 8 am.-3p.m. The Hill City Senior Center venue will be closed to artists and the public from 3p-6p for judging and private party for our award sponsors.

We are honored to have John and Jan Humphrey serve as our 2019 jurors.

Private reception for our event sponsors and purchase award sponsors 5pm-6pm. Artists’ Reception (free and open to the public) Between 6-8p.m., meet the artists at the Hill City Senior Center and see all of the artwork painted on-site in the Black Hills from the past 3 days! This is your chance to vote for your favorite scene of the Black Hills! Votes will be collected and tallied at the reception to decide the People’s Choice award. Voting ends at 7:15 pm! Awards At 7:30 p.m. artist awards will be announced, including Best of Show, People’s Choice, Honorable Mention and Best Nocturne.

Saturday, September 28:

View all of the paintings created during the entire event at the Senior Center from 1 p.m.-4 p.m.  Today is your last chance to take home your favorite! Quick Draw and Auction. Between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. in downtown Hill City, artists have only two hours to capture a scene and create a finished painting. One artist will be awarded the $100 prize for the the Best Quick Draw sponsored by Hill City’s Grace Gallery and selected by a juror. The artworks created during this event will be auctioned off immediately afterward on the Jon Crane Gallery on Main Street downtown, with 30% of auction proceeds going to the Hill City Club for Boys and Girls for art related activities. _____ Hosted by: Artists of the Black Hills and Hill City Arts Council with support from the SouthDakota ArtsCouncil.
